Things to see and do

You'll find yourself within walking distance to some of Rome's most important sites and famous squares, including:

PIAZZA NAVONA:
This spectacular urban complex of baroque Rome owes its oval shape to the Stadium of Domitian on whose remains it was built. There are the three magnificent fountains, two of which were designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and one by Giacomo della Porta. Just in front of The Fountain of the Rivers you will find the church of S. Agnese in Agone with its splendid baroque facade, the work of the Borromini.
Piazza Navona
CASTEL SANT'ANGELO:
The castle, which has become over the course of the centuries a papal fortress, rises on the structure of the huge mausoleum that Emperor Hadrian had built in the year 123 a.d. as a tomb for himself and his successors. Inside you will find collections of arms and documents. You can visit the prisons and papal apartment with its numerous works of art.
Castel Sant Angelo

PANTHEON:
One of the most celebrated Roman monuments , especially for its state of conservation, its grandiosity and ingenious design, it was reconstructed in the year 130 a.d. by the emperor Hadrian and for some centuries transformed in a church. Its dome measures 43 meters in diameter and has a hole in the center that creates an incredible luminous effect on multicolored marble found inside. It accommodates the tombs of the kings of Italy as well as some of Italy's great artists among which Raphael.

Pantheon
VATICAN AND ST. PETER'S BASILICA:
The spiritual center of Christianity, the basilica stands on the tomb of the apostle Peter as ordered by Constantine in the year 320 a.d. and continuously expanded in the course of the centuries. It was then completely reconstructed by Pope Julius II. The new plan involved the work of the greatest artists of the 1500s, from Bramante to Raphael, Giuliano from Sangallo to Baldassarre Peruzzi, Antonio da Sangallo the younger to Vignola, from Giacomo della Porta to Domenico Fontana, from Maderno to Michelangelo to whom we owe the spectacular dome. The splendid public square is the work of art of Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
Vatican and St Peters

ST. LOUIS OF THE FRENCH (SAN LIUGI DEI FRANCESI):
San Luigi is the French national church and was begun in 1518 and finished in 1589 by Domenico Fontana. The church has a magnificent facade in travertine; in the lower section there are two niches with the statues of Carl Magno and Saint Luigi.

Inside among the numerous works there are three splendid works of art by Caravaggio.

St Louis of the French (San Luigi dei Francesi)

TREVI FOUNTAIN (FONTANA DI TREVI):
Perhaps one of the most well known monuments in the world, thanks also to the legend that guarantees to the tourist a return to Rome by tossing a coin in the fountain.

Started in 1732 by Nicola Salvi under Pope Clement XII, the fountain is a fusion between the rigors of classical architecture and baroque scenographic conception.
