Virtual Shopping Tour 2
A day in the life of a personal shopper in Rome
Shopping for a teenager in Rome
I was almost afraid to e-mail Natalia. Would she consider shopping with a 13-old American girl who was determined to get a “really neat outfit” (or two!) in Rome? And, was I, her mother, crazy for hiring a personal shopper for this adventure? I knew after receiving Natalia’s prompt reply that I had made the right decision. Yes, she knew where there were great clothes for teens; yes, she could work within our budget; yes, she would be in Rome the week of February 19, 2006.
While I was fairly confident that we would come home with the “really neat outfit”, I never imagined how much fun Karen and I would have with Natalia! After meeting with us on Sunday morning and giving us maps and lots of ideas on what to see and where to eat, Natalia arranged to pick us up Tuesday morning for our shopping expedition. Karen was so excited she could hardly sleep the night before. Right on time, Natalia arrived in her car and off we went, chatting like old friends. Natalia pointed out a lot of sights as we headed for the stores and was interested in hearing about everything we had done so far.
Our first few stops were a bit discouraging. It just seemed like when Karen found something she really liked, it didn’t fit. I started hearing, “I am fat. Nothing is going to look good on me”. But Natalia kept our spirit up with her confidence and upbeat approach to shopping. If we don’t find it here…there is always…At last, Karen found a beautiful skirt that looked lovely on her, and so, by lunchtime. We had one pretty bag to carry with us.
In the afternoon, we hit the jackpot! Shirts, skirts, Jackets, jeans, vests – into the dressing room it all went, and out came Karen looking “fantastic” (that’s Natalia’s favourite word).
Karen felt like a model and I was happy to see that even with two shopping bags full of clothes, we were well within our budget.
Natalia was really invaluable, not only in knowing where to shop and finding the right sizes, but especially in her advice on color and style. She truly has a gift for putting things together. At the end of the day, we were so sad to say good-bye! It was a wonderful day-really a magical day for my teenager. Everytime Karen puts on one of the her “fantastic” outfits, we remember our trip to Rome and our lovely day spent with Natalia.
